I'm working on computer-aided composition systems and visual programming environments for composers. I'm interested in bridging gaps between computer systems for music, for instance connecting computer-aided composition software to real-time interaction or to digital sound processing and spatialization.

My activity is currently focused on the development of the OpenMusic visual programming / computer-aided composition enviroment.

In 2016 I have spent part of the academic year at CNMAT (Center for New Music and Audio Technologies, UC Berkeley) as a Fulbright visiting scolar.

I have participated to the following projects funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) :

  • EFFICAC(e) (coordinator and lead researcher, 2013–2017): Extended Frameworks for "In-time" Computer-Aided Composition.
  • DYCI2: Dynamiques créatives de l'interaction improvisée.
  • Inedit: Interactivité dans l'écriture de l'interaction et du temps.
  • SampleOrchestrator
  • EarToy

Some groups, seminars and other activities that I have organised or coordinated in the past few years :

  • MusICAL: Interaction Calcul Algorithmique et Langages appliqués à la Musique (coordinateur du réseau thématique du RNSC, 2015)
  • MaMuX: Mathématiques, Musique et relation aux autres disciplines (ccordination du séminaire, 2011–2014).
  • Nouveaux espaces de la notation (groupe de travail AFIM, co-fondateur et coordinateur, 2013–2015).

My publications include 10 articles in international journals and 35+ papers in international conference proceedings. I have co-edited 3 books about OpenMusic and it's use by composers.
The OM Composer's Book 3 was just published in 2016.

In 2017 will also appear a special issue of the Journal of New Music Research about Interactive Compositional Processes, co-edited with prof. Joel Chadabe.
